What’s Artifical Insemination
Insemination is a procedure during which sperm is injected directly into a woman’s cervix, fallopian tubes, or uterus. The procedure is performed during ovulation (in the middle of the menstrual cycle period). The subsequent processes flow in a natural way.
It’s the most commonly used type of IUI when the mass-selected sperm is injected into the uterine cavity.
IVF carried through IUI method is performed either with husband’s or donor sperm.
When is Insemination Required?
The procedure is advised during the following instances:
- sexual dysfunction,
- cervical factor infertility caused when husband’s sperm becomes non-viable in genital tracts,
- low sperm quality,
- infertility of unknown origin (when the couple passed all the necessary tests, but the cause remains unknown)
- in cases when it is still early to turn to IVF or it is too expensive.
The child born by this method is genetically and in all other aspects related to his parents. If it is implemented by donor sperm, the child will bear half of the gens of the donor.
Insemination cannot cause any damage to mother’s health.
